let's role-play! (Drama about a compliment)



ABSTRACTION
          This report contains material compliment ( subject speaking 1 ) and an example of a conversation about the material compliment. Subject Speaking 1 was subject we have taken in semester 1. Here are some of the materials that we had learned in the subject of speaking 1 in the semester 1.
 
·         Greeting and Farewell
·         Introduction
·         Welcoming
·         Getting Attention
·         Regulating Other People Speech
·         Sympathy
·         Compliment
·         Time
·         Request
·         Offer
·         Excuses
All such material has been assigned to each group, and our group assigned the task in material compliment. So this report contains a brief explanation about the material compliment.


DISCUSSION
Giving and Responding to Compliments
Compliments are expression of admiration, respect or praise. We all like to receive compliment, they make us feel good about ourselves. Compliments will people use to praise something. This phrase is often used when meet someone after say hello (greeting) as a form of attention to other people. You can praise the better appearance, hairstyle, clothes and other accessories are worn, or in certain other circumstances such as the grant or gift that is given by others, praised the home, garden, cooking someone and many other situations in daily life day.
There are 4 various kinds of compliment, namely:
1.      Compliments of appearance

·         You really have….
·         You look….
·         How …. you look tonight
·         I like your…., it’s very….
·         I love your…., it’s very….

2.      Compliments on skill or talents

·         I didn’t know you could….well.
·         Your….so well/getting better/getting stronger.
·         You are great/smart….

3.      Compliments on work accomplished

·         I don’t know how you did it, but….
·         Congratulations. I heard you/your….That is great news.
·         This/these….is/are very delicious.
  
4.      Compliments on possessions

·         Your new….is very nice/good.
·         Your….is generous/lovely.
·         I like your…., it’s very….
·         I love your…., it’s very….

Many kinds of the expressions are used to give compliment to others as below :
·      You’re doing great/you did great.
·      What a ( beautiful, lovely, etc )
·      It look good on you
·      I think you look good in….
·      I love….
·      It’s very/so
·      Good job/great
·      I ( really ) like your….
·      I think you are very great
·      That’s a ( nice, lovely, good, etc ).
·      You look ( good, handsome, beautiful, wonderful, great, etc )....
·      You are ( really ) good
·      You’re wonderful on
·      Wow, Fantastic.
·      That's great
·      Well done.
·      How beautiful you look.
·      Wow.... beautiful.
·      What a good appearance I see.
·       Excellent
·      Fabulous
·      Kind
·      Terrific

Responding to a Compliments
·         Thank you/Thanks.
·         It is nice/kind of you to say so/that.
·         Really? I'm not sure about it, actualy.
·         Do you really think so?
·         It's very kind of you to say that.
·         Thanks, I need that.
·         You've my day.
·         I’m glad you like it


PLAYS A COMPLIMENT
Cast :

Place : At class

            Holidays college has ended, Students STKIP PGRI BANJARMASIN  back to campus for lectures as usual. At one class of English Education, there are two friends who are talking about their holiday. They are Katy and Angel.

Katy  : Hi Angel! How are you?
Angel : I am fine, and you?
Katy  : I am fine too. How was your vacation with your family in USA?
Angel  : Terrific! We had a lovely time there. You should go there.
Katy   : Really? Hey, your clothes is very beautiful, do you buy it in the USA?
Angel : Thank you. But I did not buy this clothes in the USA, it is a gift given my mother when my birthday last year
Katy   : Wow! That`s wonderful. Do you not buy anything in the USA?
Angel  : Of course I bought something.
Katy   : What did you buy there?
Angel : Look at the shoes I am wearing. I bought it in the USA. ( pointed shoes are being worn her )
Katy   : Wow! These shoes are very nice, Closely matches the color of your skin
Angel : Thank you
Katy   : Your welcome

            Lecturers come. Lecture begins. They ended their conversation.
When the lecture was over, Angel approached Katy and provide a souvenir from the USA.

Angel : Katy, this is for you. ( Giving a souvenir )
Katy   : What is this Angel?
Angel : This is a souvenir that i bought from the USA special for you
Katy  : ( Unwrapping a given Angel )
Wow! This necklace is very nice, can I wear?
Angel : Of course
Katy   : Okay, I am going to wear it (Katy wear a necklace giving Angel)
Angel : Wow! This necklace is perfect for you. You look more beautiful wearing this necklace
Katy   : Thank you so much you have bought it for me. You are very good Angel.
Angel  : Your welcome. Let`s go home
Katy    : Let`s go
            They go home together after college.
